Kapuas Hulu was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2018 and has been an official Conservation Regency since 2003. Around 65 percent of the district remains under forest cover, with no mining, no industrial agriculture and no chemical inputs at any scale.
That matters because a plant takes up what is in the soil around it. Heavy metal contamination in botanicals is almost always environmental, and the only reliable way to avoid it is to grow somewhere that has never been through an industrial era.
