Halifax gets its humidity from the ocean. Djongkong gets it from the rainforest. Our kratom grows far inland, upriver along the Kapuas in West Kalimantan, where the air stays humid year-round and the river shapes the land around it, flooding the banks in the wet season.

Halifax relies on the ocean to soften its winters. Djongkong sits almost on the equator, where temperatures barely change from one month to the next. There is no winter and no growing season in the Canadian sense, which is why harvesting there follows the rains rather than the calendar.
Light and exposure
Light matters most after the harvest. Some leaves are dried in full sun, which deepens the colour, as with our Gold Bali. Others are dried slowly in the shade to keep their natural green, as with our Green Malay. The choice between sun and shade is one of the main things that separates one product from another.
Processing in a humid climate
Constant humidity slows natural drying, in Halifax as in Djongkong. Producers there adjust exposure times and drying locations to the weather of each day, moving leaves in and out of the sun as conditions change. Where our kratom comes from
Our kratom is grown in Djongkong, in the Kapuas Hulu region of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The area sits along the Kapuas River, within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where forest still covers most of the land.
We buy directly from the families who grow it. Our team has travelled there in person, stayed in the village, and watched the harvest, drying and milling firsthand. Most vendors have never seen where their product comes from. Learn more about how we source our kratom.

Storage in a maritime climate
Halifax humidity works against dried botanicals more than most Canadian cities. Coastal air holds moisture year-round, and basements and ground floors near the water are the worst spots for storage.
Keep pouches sealed and stored somewhere with stable, dry air rather than a garage or a room that gets damp. Our pouches are built to resist moisture ingress, but for larger quantities held over months, an airtight container with a desiccant packet is worth the small effort.
