The price per gram drops by more than half between 50g and 1kg, and by nearly 80 percent by the time you reach 20kg.
That is not a promotional discount. It reflects real cost structure. A 50g order and a 1kg order take roughly the same labour to pack and the same paperwork to process. Shipping a 50g pouch costs nearly as much as shipping a 1kg bag. Those fixed costs get spread across far fewer grams on a small order.
The practical implication: if you know which strain you want, buying larger saves substantial money. If you are trying something for the first time, the 50g exists so you are not committing $165 to find out.
Shipping is free on every order because we absorb the cost, not because Canada Post does it for nothing.
A small letter mail shipment costs a few dollars. A 250g Expedited Parcel across the country costs $15 to $25. A 1kg parcel to British Columbia runs higher. On the smallest orders, shipping eats a meaningful share of the sale.
Some vendors handle this by charging shipping separately, which is a legitimate approach and often works out cheaper on large orders. We built it in so the advertised price is what you pay. Worth knowing when comparing: a lower sticker price with $18 shipping added is not a lower price.
Kratom is an agricultural product harvested by hand in a remote part of Borneo, dried and milled in a village, flown across the world, cleared through customs, and tested in a Canadian laboratory before it reaches a shelf. Every one of those steps costs money.
The two largest line items most buyers never think about are import logistics and lab testing. Air freight, customs brokerage, an importer bond and airport handling all get charged per shipment. A full lab panel from an accredited Canadian laboratory runs several hundred dollars per sample, covering alkaloid content, a heavy metals panel, microbiology and moisture. We test multiple samples per shipment, and that cost is built into every bag.
Vendors selling substantially below market rates are usually cutting one of those. Testing is the most common cut, because it is invisible to the customer and expensive. Sourcing is the second, buying through brokers who aggregate from unknown farms, which is cheaper and untraceable.
There is no version of this product where the raw material costs pennies. If a price looks too good, something in the chain was skipped.
Price shopping in this market is harder than it should be, because vendors present costs differently. Four things to check.
Is shipping included? Add it before comparing. A $60 bag with $18 shipping is a $78 bag.
What size is being quoted? Per-gram is the only fair comparison. Some vendors sell in ounces rather than metric weights, which makes direct comparison awkward. An ounce is 28.35 grams, so a $30 ounce is $1.06 per gram, roughly three times the price of a metric 250g bag.
Is it tested? A vendor publishing batch-specific lab results has spent money you can verify. One who does not may simply be cheaper because they skipped it.
Are all strains priced the same? Some vendors charge a premium for certain colours. Since every colour comes from the same plant and the same farms, differing prices usually reflect marketing rather than cost.
Physical shops carrying kratom in Canada typically price well above online rates per gram. That is not gouging. A head shop buys from a distributor, who buys from an importer, who buys from an exporter, and each layer takes a margin. The shop carries rent and staff on top.
You are paying for immediacy, which is a real benefit if you need it today. You are not paying for better product, and you generally get less information about what you bought.
The bulk tiers exist for resellers, retailers and anyone buying at volume. At 20kg the per-gram cost is roughly a fifth of the 50g price.
The practical considerations are storage and shelf life. Kratom kept sealed, dry and out of direct light holds up well for a year or more, but 20kg is a lot of product to keep in good condition and you need somewhere appropriate to put it.
